Henry Hill- "As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster".

Goodfellas" is a cinematic masterpiece from start to finish with it's brilliant pacing, brilliant performances and brilliant storytelling from Martin Scorsese. What makes "Goodfellas" stand out from other mobster films is it's brutal portrayal of a life of crime, and nails every detail of the highs and lows in such a way that's cinematically stunning. So many iconic, quotable scenes make this one of the best films of all time.

The cinematography along with the excellent choice of songs for the movie stands for Scorsese’s cliche style of direction, the movie explains itself through the music and beautiful shots of excellence. Who doesn’t get a chills through the spines when you get to see Scorsese’s brilliant one takes and I certainly had goosebumps when the protagonist broke the 4th wall.at times the movie leaves the audience with a quest for high Adrenaline rushes while at times it leaves you cold and spineless. Words can’t describe how organised the screenplay has rolled out throughout this movie.

Based on Nichola Pleggi’s book ‘wise guy’, story about a Young man Henry and his friends Tommy and Jimmy making their lives as gangsters on the mean streets of New York. his movie has a stellar cast and mind-blowing performances by the legendary actor Robert De Niro as James Burke or Jimmy- the master mind behind the heist, Joe Pesci who won an Oscar for his role as the psychotic Tommy DeVito, Ray Liotta as Henry and Lorraine Bracco.

And though Scorsese had made great movies before and would make great ones after this, this Mob-flick hit feels like a summation of his culturally specific, universally thrilling cinema about men on the edge. There are movies that may be more emblematic of the Nineties, but this was the one that set the pace for the entire decade – a high mark that left most other contenders to the throne looking like schnooks.

There are several quotes that made the movie iconic. For example-
"In prison, dinner was always a huge thing".
And don't we just love when Joe Pesci lost his cool every single time. Once in a lifetime movie.

My Rating- 8.5/10
