Jack Ryan in his first season manages to become one of the best action series based on military tactics, since its well-developed history by Graham Roland and Carlton Cuse. The first season stands out precisely for introducing us to viewers who Jack Ryan really is, his fears, his vision, his strategy, and that brings us closer to his character.
John Krasinski is the fifth actor to play this part after Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine. But John managed to pull a great job. Ryan’s mission is to take down religious zealot antagonist “Suleiman,” played by Ali Suliman, who does everything he can to bring depth and nuance to what is otherwise a fleshed-out version of the “evil foreigner” trope. The women in the series are also just as badly rendered, which is a shame since this is supposed to be a modernized update.
The show’s 9/11 obsession, presumably part of a bid to hook younger generations of viewers who have never known a time that was not colored in some way by the World Trade Center attacks, drags "Jack Ryan" back into the jingoistic territory.
I surely enjoyed my time watching Jack Ryan Season 1. Maybe it's kinda my genre, but this season would definitely engage your mind. The actor who played "Mousa Bin Sulieman" definitely has my respect. Looking forward to what Season 2 brings.
My Rating- 7/10
