Welcome to the Grand Budapest Hotel. We recount the story of a lobby boy and the main concierge of the titular hotel who gets in way over their heads. This is personally my favourite Wes Anderson movie out of all his inspiring creations. I love how the movie is divided into chapters and how each has a straightforward storyline driving it forward. There is humour, romance, absurdness and generally breathtaking, meticulously-constructed scenes as usual.

From the start of the film it is clear that you are watching a Wes Anderson film. The colour palette and set design are obvious visual clues for this. The music by Anderson’s frequent collaborator Alexandre Desplat is also an indication of who is directing the film and its whimsical sound adds to the charm of the film. The cast also includes actors who have appeared in several other of Anderson’s films for example Bill Murray and Owen Wilson.

Some visuals seem forced and uncomfortable and with the over stylistic visual choices it does take you out of the illusion of cinema. With a stunning performance from Ralph fiennes which makes the film hilarious, imaginative and clever. To follow up also fanstastic performances from Tilda Swindon, Saoirse Ronan, Tony Revolori, Jeff Goldblum and so many other fantastic Co- stars. Overall this film is a rare gem that deserves to be watched worldwide and is in my opinion a must watch.

My Rating- 7.5/10
