NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (2007)

Image
Starring- Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Woody Harrelson, and Kelly Macdonald.  Directed By- Ethan and Joel Coen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ellis :   Whatcha' got ain't nothin new. This country's hard on people, you can't stop what's coming, it ain't all waiting on you. That's vanity. One of the finest film from the Masters of contemporary cinema, The Coen brothers. Films about people finding and keeping gangsters' loot are nothing new, but they usually have something to tell us, beyond the fact that it is a bad idea.' 'No Country for Old Men' is set in Texas of the 1980s. Llewyn Moss ( Josh Brolin ) comes across a satchel of 2 million dollars while hunting for pronghorns after a drug deal goes wrong with all negotiators dead and taking advantage of the situation, he runs off with the satchel. Though interestingly , these acts too are subservient to his principles of m...

AK VS AK (2020)

Image
Starring- Anil Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Harshwardhan Kapoor, Yogita Bihani, Sonam Kapoor, and Boney Kapoor. Directed By- Vikramaditya Motwane ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anurag Kashyap-  “ Jagana padega. Apko andar ka Rakhwala, Lakhan, Munna, Nayak, sabko jagana padega ”. “Daniel ka Day-Lewis  ho gaya . There is blood!”- My favorite line from the movie, sums up everything. ANIL KAPOOR IS A GODDAMN ARTIST!! WHAT AN ACTOR!!  I always look forward to a Vikramaditya Motwane film. He always tries to do something new and there's no guessing what he's gonna come up with next. AK vs AK is another experimental but fun film to watch. This movie is an indication of how and where the Indian cinema is heading towards. The plot revolves around a talented director who hates PM Modi and loves abuses and violence like Tarantino and thinks himself of as the INDIAN MARTIN SCORCESE, and the other is a past his prime movi...

THE WHITE TIGER (2021)

Image
Starring- Adarsh Gaurav, Rajkummar Rao, Mahesh Manjrekar, Kamlesh Gill, Vijay Maurya, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Directed By- Ramin Bahrani. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Balram- There is a story about a cunning Brahmin trying to trick the Buddha?  The Brahmin asks, "Master do you consider yourself man or god?" To which the Buddha smiles and says, "Neither." "I'm just one who has woken up while the rest of you are still sleeping." This movie might be a 50-50 for most viewers. T his film will grind your mind in a way that you will start feeling uncomfortable at some point. This film gives you a peek at the dining rooms of the poor of the country. As far as my review is concerned, I felt a sense of pride as an Indian, watching this. None of that stereotype, or overplaying Indian ways, accents, mannerisms. It was very real. Finally, an 'India film' that is simply a very powerful statem...

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (Season 1) 2018

Image
Starring-  John  Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, Ali Suliman, Abbi Cornish, John Hoogenaker, Dina Shihabi. Created for TV by- Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Greer- "You got to go with your gut, that's all you got. Sometimes it doesn't work out, that's the job". Jack Ryan in his first season manages to become one of the best action series based on military tactics, since its well-developed history by Graham Roland and Carlton Cuse. The first season stands out precisely for introducing us to viewers who Jack Ryan really is, his fears, his vision, his strategy, and that brings us closer to his character. John Krasinski is the fifth actor to play this part after Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine. But John managed to pull a great job.  Ryan’s mission is to take down religious zealot antagonist “Suleiman,” played by Ali Suliman, who does everything he c...

TANDAV (2021-)

Image
Starring- Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, Sunil Grover, Sarah Jane Dias, Anup Soni, Dino Morea, and Kumud Kumar Mishra. Directed By- Abbas Ali Zafar. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Devki Nandan- "Agar ye Anuraddha ka ladka nahi hota, to saale ko 12 hazar ki naukri nahi milti kisi seher me". "Isko dekh kar tumhe Tanashah nahi nazar aata hai"? For a director who has made average movies like 'Tiger Zinda hai' and 'Sultan', there's no coincidence that he makes another average series with absolutely no logic and zero storylines. The makers tried their absolute best to bring real-life incidents and events into account but making series isn't just a piece of cake for everyone. The acting was really nice, good to see Saif Ali Khan getting the spotlight he deserves. Sunil Grover did his best to play a badass character but doesn't live up to the ...

FOXCATCHER (2014)

Image
Starring- Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Sienna Miller, and Venessa Redgrave. Directed By- Bennett Miller. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Du Pont- "Coach is the father. The coach is a mentor. Coach has great power over the athlete's life.  Mark Schultz- "I'm going to give you everything". A film that takes its time presenting its case, Bennett Miller's wickedly brutal "Foxcatcher" entices audiences to learn more about the questions around us, and where they could lead.    Although based on the true story of Olympic gold medalist Mark Schultz and his brief years of training under multi-millionaire John du Pont, "Foxcatcher" expands well beyond the wrestling ring into the minds of two men longing to find greatness. Written by Oscar-nominee Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye, "Foxcatcher" tells the story of Mark Schultz (Tatum), an Olympic wrestler who befriends b...

BEAUTIFUL BOY (2018)

Image
Starring- Steve Carell, Timothee Chalamet, Maura Tierney, and Amy Ryan. Directed By- Felix Van Groeningen --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Sheff- "Do you know how much I love you? More than everything". Nic Sheff- Everything? David Sheff- Everything. The beauty of this film is that the story is told from both father and son perspectives.  The silence within this film is so powerful, that if you're eating popcorn, sipping on a beverage, or your phone rings, you do any of these at your own risk.  "Beautiful Boy" is a powerful movie-going experience and one that is hard to get out of your head. Above all, it is the acting performances that make this film, and the four key cast members all turn in memorable turns. It's excruciating watching Carell's parental anguish and then (like a blast of light) his realization of a truth he'd been avoiding for a long time. It's Chalamet though who truly shin...

Kapoor and Sons (2016)

Image
Starring- Rishi Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Rajat Kapoor. Directed By- Shakun Batra. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rahul Kapoor- So, is your story real? Arjun Kapoor- It's real. And there's no guarantee in real life that everything will be well in the end. That's why we look for happiness in those stories.    Kapoor and Sons is one of the most beautiful movies I've watched in a while.  I was seriously impressed & engrossed by the flow of the narrative. The entire concept, of this imperfect, dysfunctional family & the secrets within them, has a terrific undercurrent of emotions. Shakun Batra & Ayesha Devitre Dhillon's Screenplay is Tremendous. The Writing is genuinely great, as this story flows wonderfully & ends, on a very high emotional note.  Watching Bollywood movies, you get disillusioned seeing the crassness, but some producers/Directors know...

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Image
Starring- Brad Pitt, Kate Blanchett, Taraji P. Henson, Julia Ormond, Jason Flemyng, Mahershala Ali, and Tilda Swinton. Directed By- David Fincher. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Benjamin Button- "I hope that you live a life that you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you find the courage to start all over again". I found this to be an interesting film;  Yes, it's slow, especially by today's movie standards, but it's certainly a unique story and it's nicely filmed, acted, and directed. Story-wise, it's one of those films I understand if people love it or hate it.   For a movie that runs for over 2 hours and 40 minutes and is not some suspense or action film, it has to be pretty good to hold one's interest.  The film demands you to feel not only for the death we witness but for the incredible life we discover. It prays on the obvious morality issues we all deal wi...

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (2002)

Image
Starring- Leonardo Di Caprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Brian Howe, Amy Adams, and James Brolin, Directed By- Steven Spielberg. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Frank Abagnale Sr.  :  You know why the Yankees always win, Frank? Frank Abagnale, Jr. :  'Cause they have Mickey Mantle? Frank Abagnale Sr.  :  No, it's 'cause the other teams can't stop staring at those damn pinstripes. While watching 'Catch Me If You Can' I had so much fun I smiled constantly. Well, that smile was interrupted by laughs. The movie tells the story of Frank W. Abignale, Jr. who is just a kid as he pretends to be a schoolteacher. After his father and mother get a divorce he runs away and starts pretending to be a co-pilot, a doctor, a lawyer. The way he does this is funny and brilliant.' The story is inspired by a real story. I don't know in how many ways it is true but watching this guy all I wanted to see was...

CRIMINAL JUSTICE- BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS (2020)

Image
Starring- Pankaj Tripathi, Kriti Kulhari, Anupriya Goenka, Mita Vashisht, Shilpa Shukla, and Ashish Vidyarthi. Written and Directed By-  Rohan Sippy, Arjun Mukerjee ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nikhat Hussain- "Bikram Chandra was a really great guy! I don't understand why she killed him." Madhav Mishra- "Pata nahi ye great guy-great guy kya hota hai? Hume to log kabhi-kabhi Gau aadmi bol dete hai"! I'm a fan of the way Hotstar and Co. created the Criminal Justice Season 1. But season 2 was a bit too lame.  S1 had that constant urge amongst the audience to know how Vikrant would be proved innocent and who was the actual killer...... but in S2, right from E1, you can guess why Kriti stabs her husband and believe me there is no twist or turns, unlike S1. Nevertheless, S2 is still quite interesting to watch and with some power packed performances, the show levels up. Pankaj looks more like th...
