Home Before Dark (2020-) (Season 1)

Image
Starring- Brooklyn Prince, Jim Sturgess, Kylie Rogers, Abbie Miller, Joelle Carter, Michael Weston, and Michael Greyeyes. Created By- Dara Resnik, Dana Fox.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Penny Gillis- " You want to know the best way to keep a secret? Pretend there isn’t one".  Any show that is based on a true story, has my curiosity. This show had my attention as well.  I was shocked at how good this show was. When I read about it, I wondered if a nine-year-old solving a murder case isn't worth my time, but I'm happy that I gave it a chance. This series brought so many emotions that I could not explain. The show also explains everything very well. I did not catch myself misunderstanding the story or the setting and time. I'm impressed with how the writers built the string for this mysterious yarn. This story holds form in and out of every episode. The twists and turns are fun which made...

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005)

Image
Starring- Robert Downey Jr, Michelle Monaghan, Val Kimler, Corbin Bernsen, Larry Miller. Directed By- Shane Black. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gay Perry-  “ Rule  number one: this business, real life, it's boring.” Anyone who has followed Robert's career knows that this was the movie he was waiting for.  Ironman was great but everyone accredits that as his big comeback role. Whilst I consider Ironman as a comeback for the Comic Book movies which had been suffering in popularity and quality. RDJ plays a funny fool and a petty unlucky thief, it is especially interesting and funny to watch after the Three Parts of Iron Man. So Robert reveals himself from an interesting side as a hero and for me, as a spectator, it was funny as hell. Dark quip filled humor and a murder conspiracy that isn't completely ridiculous. Val Kilmer is HILARIOUS in most scenes and brings a lot of chemistry alongside RDJ. Michelle d...

Good Will Hunting (1997)

Image
Starring- Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Minnie Driver, and Stellan Skarsgard.  Directed By- Gus Van Sant. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sean Maguire- "You'll always have bad times, but it'll wake you up to the good stuff you weren't paying attention to". If you ever feel low, watch this movie. Ever need your confidence back? Watch this movie. Want some really motivating quotes? Watch this movie. Good will hunting is more of a discovery than a movie to be honest. A complex orphan character who doesn't really want to give in to the noramlities of the society. Friends who are ready to die for you and people who believe in you. This film is everything you're looking for. The scenes between Robin and Matt have so much meaning for a second I thought if these sessions or therapies would be life lessons on their own. Some movies can't be expressed they have to be felt. Matt and...

The Haunting of the Hill House (2018) (Season 1)

Image
Starring- Michael Huisman, Carla Gugino, Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas, McKenna Grace, and Timothy Hutton. Created By- Mike Flanagan.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve- " A ghost can be a lot of things. A memory, a daydream, a secret. Grief, anger, guilt. But, in my experience, most times they’re just what we want to see". Thanks to my friend who told me about this show, for I have given up on Netflix shows for all sorts of reasons. Easily one of the best Horror genre shows I've ever watched.  The Haunting of Hill House slowly Turns into a spellbinding masterpiece full of sorrow and longing. T he series shows the tragic events played out in Hill House around 20 years prior and the stain that the family left behind. A lot of psychological work went into making this that puts horror at a whole new level. The good thing about this show was, it'll make you emotional by the end.  I believe it ha...

The 40-year old Virgin (2005)

Image
Starring- Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Catherine Keener, Romany Malco, Jonah Hill, and Kate Dennings. Directed By- Jude Apatow. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andy Stitzer- "You know what? I respect women, I respect them so much that I completely stay away from them". The 40-Year-Old Virgin" has got to be one of the most vulgar raunchy comedies created at this point. It makes "The Hangover" and "Old School" look like G-rated films, but if you can deal with the excessive language and nudity there is actually some great performances and story to be found here. I never saw it at the movies, because it didn't seem like the type of movie I'd be interested in as the title is silly, but then my flat mate strongly encouraged me to watch it and I instantly fell in love. This film combines vulgarity, slapstick, sex, a solid plot, good acting and most importantly heart. I love Stev...

Chinatown (1974)

Image
Starring- Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, John Huston, John Hillerman, Diane Ladd, and Roman Polanski. Directed By- Roman Polanski. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Man with Knife :   “You’re a very nosy fellow, kitty cat. Huh? You know what happens to nosy fellows? Huh? No? Wanna guess? Huh? No? Okay. They lose their noses.” Polanski’s masterpiece has a stunning period setting of 1937 that is as visually striking as The Godfather Part II (which came out the same year). This is a film where everything works, and treats its audience with intelligence expecting them to keep up with the complex plot. Jack Nicholson excels as Jake Gittes, an LA private investigator who “sticks his nose” into a conspiracy and get more than he bargained with. .All the actors are spot on Faye Dunaway was never better, but I found all the Small characters from Lt.Escobar to Morty the coroner is what shines. Particularly creepy is Joh...

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

Image
Starring- Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, Abbie Cornish, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Hedges, and Peter Dinklage. Directed By- Martin McDonough. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Willoughby-  “Because through love comes  calm , and through  calm  comes thought. And you  need  thought to detect stuff sometimes, Jason. It's kinda all you  need . You don't even  need  a  gun . And you definitely don't need hate .  Hate  never solved nothing, but  calm  did. And thought did. Try it. Try it just for a  change .” I BOW DOWN TO FRANCES McDORMAND SUPREMACY!! This film is so smart at being able to keep you at the edge of your seat from simple things that they plug into the film. Heartbreaking and tense situations in the first half of the film come back in some shape or form that leave you questioning what is going to happen. There was genuine...

The Dictator (2012)

Image
Starring- Sacha Baron Cohen, Jason Mantzoukas, Anna Faris, John C. Reilly, Megan Fox, and Sir Ben Kingsley. Directed By- Larry Charles. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Admiral General Aladdin-  "We dictators aren't all bad. While Western countries continue to ravage our planet's resources, we preserve our land and conserve it by burying thousands of bones in single mass eco-graves." ALADDIN MADAFAKAAAAA!!! I like the unorthodox character of this film, Sacha Baron Cohen's movies are definitely one of the kind. I wouldn't consider the humor crude, but it is certainly honest. Some of the unthinkable things you see are likely to have happened in reality.  I wish there were more comedies like that - crossing over the political correctness line, but not over the line of good taste, so as to make a movie hard to watch.  The film is quite pointy, it is for a moderate audience and will make all kinds of extremists quite unh...

Aspirants (2021)

Image
Starring- Naveen Kasturia, Shivankit Singh Parihar, Abhilash Thapliyal, Namita Dubey, Sunny Hinduja, and Kuljeet Singh. Created By- Arunabh Kumar and Shreyansh Pandey. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SK- "First attempt nahi nikala, Second attempt nahi nikala, third attempt nahi nikala, peeche palat ke dekhoge to zindagi ke 6 saal gayab. Confidence zameen ke andar hota hai. Ye UPSC hai, insaan ko mentally aur physically choos leta hai". There is an aura around TVF that wants us to admire their work every time they bring out something new. After the huge success of Pitchers, Panchayat, Hostel Daze, and Kota Factory, they came out with Aspirants.  This series shows the dilemma of an Upsc aspirant from the perspective of an aspirant itself from Delhi, Old Rajinder Nagar to be precise, the Hub of UPSC. It has similar vibes to Kota Factory but with a more serious and mature presentation. The hardships of an aspirant are ...

A Quiet Place (2018)

Image
Starring- Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, Cade Woodward. Directed By- John Krasinski. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lee Abbott (in sign language)-   " I love you. I've always loved you". Okay, here's the plot-  In starting 5 min we get the situation. Creatures or Aliens attack has already begun. Most of the Population and Animals are dead. Those monsters could kill anyone instantly, even if they make the slightest sound. The film takes place in 2020 in a post-apocalyptic world in which people are almost exterminated by bloodthirsty humanoid monsters. These monsters are completely blind, but have aggravated hearing, thanks to which, hearing the victim, instantly overtake and kill her. The film shows such main scenes as supporting each other, caring for loved ones, which is very important when there are people who love, appreciate and respect you, it means so much. In general, I really liked thi...
